Styling a Table or Chest Drawers
If there's one thing I've learned about styling tables and chest of drawers, it's that you can change them seasonly or add just one extra little thing that will be eye catching. Whether it's in the living room, entryway, or dining area, I've rearranged and restyled the tables and chests in my home countless times. Each time, it feels like a new project—one that is both fun and a great way to refresh a space. What I love about styling them is how new items or seasonal changes can inspire a completely different look. For me, this process is never the same twice, but it’s always a rewarding experience.
I tend to restyle tables and chest of drawers in my home based on what’s inspiring me at the moment—whether it’s a newly purchased item or a plant coming into season. Some of my favorite items to work with include stacked books, antique bowls, baskets, vases, candles, topiaries, and lamps. Each piece plays a part in creating a layered, curated look that feels both intentional and personal.
When it comes to styling with topiaries, I like to vary their heights for added dimension. Larger topiaries are always my go-to because they make a statement. While it may feel safer to use smaller pieces, I find that larger items really ground the space. They add a sense of permanence and make the table feel settled, rather than incomplete. The beauty of larger pieces is that they give the table a more thoughtful and “finished” look. They draw the eye and anchor the whole setup.
Books are an easy starting point for a balanced table display. Stacking them adds height and texture without overwhelming the space, creating a perfect base for vases, lamps, or topiaries.
I love adding plants of all kinds to bring life to the table or chest. Whether it’s a small plant or a larger topiary, varying their heights adds visual interest while maintaining balance.
To finish, I add a lamp or an antique plate, a vintage dish, or a candle. These items bring warmth and personality to the display, making it feel personal and unique. Lamps add soft light, while antiques bring history and character to the space.
If you want to create something that feels intentional but effortless, I recommend starting with stacked books as your foundation. From there, add a plant or two with varying heights to bring in life. Top it off with a lamp or an antique piece to add that finishing touch. Don’t be afraid to experiment with larger pieces—they make a bigger impact and will leave you with a table arrangement that feels settled and perfectly styled.
Styling tables and chests of drawers is always a fun project that brings new life to any room. With a little creativity and a few personal touches, your table can become a true focal point in your home.
