Prepping the Herb Garden

Nothing says “homegrown” like a handful of fresh basil or sprigs of rosemary picked right outside your door. If you’re dreaming of an herb garden this year, now’s the perfect time to plan and prep!

Here are a few ideas to get started—no matter your space:

Pick Your Planting Style

Terracotta Pots:
Perfect for small spaces or windowsills. You can give each herb its own pot and group them together for a rustic, charming look.

One Large Pot:
Plant several herbs together in one spacious pot. Just be sure they have similar light and watering needs!

Above-Ground Garden Box:
Great for patios or backyards. Raised boxes offer good drainage and are easy to maintain.

In-Ground Bed:
If you’ve got the space, mark off a section of your garden and make it your herb haven.

Planting Tips

Depending on your climate zone, you’ve got a few options:

Start seeds indoors now to give them a head start before moving them outside.
Direct sow seeds outdoors if your soil is ready and warm enough.
– Or, wait until 2–3 weeks after your last spring frost to plant young herb plants directly in the garden.

Popular herbs like basil, thyme, rosemary, parsley, and mint are all easy to grow with a little sunlight and love.

Whether you’re adding fresh flavor to your meals or just love the scent of herbs in the breeze, a little garden goes a long way. Grab your pots or prep your bed—it’s time to grow something good!
