A Letter for May
Dear FIG Friends,
For the second year in a row I have had the honor to be lead designer/decorator for the Duck Ball. This event has taken place for nearly six decades. It is an evening when the community gathers in celebration with a purpose- to raise funds that get distributed to local nonprofit agencies providing vital services to individuals and families throughout the community.
After the event took place I had someone ask me, “How do you even begin to decide where to start?”
I always start with the feeling I want to evoke, then I go to my desired color pallet. Standing in the large blank space I knew I wanted it to be a night where one felt as though they were transported to an English garden. From there me and my trusty side kick, Kelly, made an appointment with an event company to select the linens, china, chairs, etc. I also knew that I wanted to tent the room to give it more intimacy to make it fell cozy. We relied on flowers for the tables and entrances as well as Smilax which I had hung from the ceiling and going up the stairs to create the garden feel.
It takes months to prepare for an event of this size and it honesty feels like throwing a wedding. One thing I know for certain, it takes a village to pull it off. I was grateful to be part of such a lovely team of women who were faithful to meet monthly to make sure everything went off without a hitch. It truly does take teamwork to make your dreamwork. Together is always better and the outpouring of all the helping hands that came together to make this evening possible was inspiring and all for a worthy cause.
Blessings to You,
Ash
