Who Am I?
Dear FIG Friends,
My thoughts recently have started with this question- who am I?
I began my little company FIG out of a need. A need to explore my creativity, to help others create environments that they are excited to come home to and share with others. A need to fill my time with ways to be helpful for others. When I started it, I was coming out of a season of three years of homeschooling where my minutes and hours were full to the brim of pouring into my children's education.
In 2018 we decided to send them back to school as they were just beginning middle and high school and I found myself with many hours during the day free to do anything. When your children have been with you 24 hours a day, seven days a week and you are responsible for fostering their physical, mental and emotional needs then all of sudden they are not with you - the 8 hours a day they are away at school feels like so much time is available. So the way that they needed me shifted, and I found myself on a journey of discovery.
I always loved interior design and had so much fun designing our family homes over the years.
Helping friends pick out paint colors, or help them with space planning - this came naturally to me. I was not formally trained but I have always had an eye for scale and proportion, colors and textures and how to make rooms make sense as they flow one to another. Balance and editing the layers that come with design has been something that I have forever enjoyed. I have always been fascinated with houses and their architecture and what makes them look good. After many conversations with my husband, lots of prayer and talking with a few friends, FIG was born.
I blinked, and realized I have been at this for 8 years. Someone recently said to me,
" I didn't know you are an interior designer." My reply, " I'm not." I am a wife, a mother, a friend, a child of the King that sometimes does interior design. I am a home cook and baker, a home gardener, a woman who has so much fun creating flower arrangements and beautiful tablescapes. I am someone who wants to do a better job of encouraging others, serving others, listening to others, and learning more about how to make a difference in the lives of others. When you have knowledge there is a responsibility to do something with it. What to do with what you know. This is something I am constantly exploring.
Recently, I have sensed a pivot coming with FIG and I am exploring what this will look like and I am excited for what that could be and when I figure it out, I will be excited to share it with you. We humans are more than our vocation. Our vocations can shift and change but who we are doesn't rely on what we do from nine to five everyday - it goes way beyond that. Who we are is hopefully a person of kindness, integrity, grace, and love. A person who lends a helping hand and shows mercy even when we do not want to. A person who listens well and is attentive to the people around us and willing to give our time to them when they are in need.
I am someone who desires to be wise with my time.
I am someone who wants to dig deep to learn more and never stop growing.
I am someone who loves life and the people in it, even when it is hard and doesn't make sense.
Thanks for reading and for following along, I appreciate you!
A Kind Heart Always Wins
"People often mistake kindness for weakness — but that's far from the truth.
Many struggle to be kind. It's easier to be selfish, cold, or mean.
But here's what they forget:
A kind person makes others feel seen.
A kind person becomes the breath of fresh air the world forgot to give.
Kindness lingers. It makes people feel safe.
It feels like home. And in a world that's already heavy...
A kind heart becomes a shelter. Never doubt it: kindness always wins." -unkonwn
